Now that we have the 'free trial' system for TimeGPT, how are we handing it when we want to give someone credits or free access for research? @Edu @kevin @Max @Cristian Challu @azul (she/her) (nixtla) (Just had a new request come in via email)
Giving a free subscription could be a good way to do it. This is what I see now when I go to the 'Billing' page in the dashboard. Is this what new users see too?
e
yeah, exactly that, you would be able to make calls though
t
I think people might not expect they would still be able to make calls. So doing something like a free subscription would be a good idea. If we gave someone a free subscription, how should we do that? Have them sign up for the free 30 day? And then make it free for them? Do something with their account so they don't see the 'Activate your 30 day trial', and see something else instead? What would work best?

e
yeah, they would need to subscribe and then we can give credits to them, so that their subscription results free for X months
k
we don’t need to give them credits right? We’re doing a flat fee now, we can just check wether they are in the free tier or not
e
what do you mean by
are in the free tier
?
t
If we want some time to figure out the best approach, I can also just say “create an account and you’ll be able to do API calls. Don’t worry about the Billing section”

k
Wether they are paying or not
Or what do you mean by your question lol
Yeah I think we can just mention that rn
t
Ok thanks I’ll say that for now. Then we can figure out how we want to handle the free accounts for research generally.
e
yeah the thing is that
free tier
is more like a temporary backdoor, if we have some people which we want to allow to make calls once we make the change to only paid we need to put another tag on them, one option would be to make them subscribe but give them credits so that that subscription is free
k
yeah, what I’m saying is that if we need to “give them” something anyway, might as well give them the tag (or if its an option to check this via the stripe api, not even that) vs assigning credits
✅ 1
but either works and would be minimal work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
e
agree, just that the credits option is something doable today without any code change, can be done from stripe
